THE START
In the 1960s, the city of Chicago was growing exponentially and with it, plans to enhance the city through real estate. With the desire to see the cityscape continue to thrive in an innovative direction, Bern Builders & Realty was established at the hands of Bernard Grizaffi. Bern Builders & Realty quickly proved itself to be more than just an establishment of concepts. With that being the case, we evolved into a successful and fully-integrated real estate development company with the vision and capacity to carry out both residential and commercial projects throughout the greater Chicago area.
But, we were not done there! The company’s seemingly innate ability to self-perform all required tasks drove the company to perform in far more impressive ways. From planning and architectural strategy to general contracting and construction alongside sales, marketing and building management efforts, Bern Builders & Realty was a self-sufficient organization that handled each and every project with grace, ease and incredible customer service. Under the direction of Mr. Grizaffi, hundreds of residential units, single family homes, condominium buildings, and townhouse communities were successfully established. In addition, the company contributed to over one million square feet of commercial development space, leaving an impressive legacy and economic impact on the city.
CHANGE OF GUARDS
After Mr. Grizaffi’s passing in 1989, Bern Builders & Realty entered into a phase of restructuring that resulted in the emergence of the modern Bern Realty, LLC. Today, the company is led forward into the innovative and managerial endeavors it undertakes by managing broker Drew B. Krisco, grandson of the late Mr. Grizaffi. In this role, Mr. Krisco is honored to direct and oversee the asset management of more than a dozen commercial and retail properties within the Bern Realty portfolio. Committed to the causes and people-focused passions of his grandfather, Bern Realty, LLC has flourished under Mr. Krisco’s leadership.

Bern Realty played a role in several new construction developments that include, multiple Buona Beef Restaurants in St. Charles, Beverly, Harwood Heights and Algonquin. In addition to the single tenant restaurant developments, Bern Realty also developed multi-tenant retail centers in Frankfort and Berwyn, including Berwyn Gateway Plaza, a development that consisted of the land assemblage of three blocks and received national recognition for a public-private partnership.
